Local by design

Screenshot and recording processing and device-frame compositing happen locally on your Mac. Sim Screener does not upload screenshots, recordings, device frames, or capture history. The app includes no advertising, analytics, or crash-reporting SDKs.

License activation

When you activate or verify a paid license, the app sends the license key and activation instance identifier directly to Lemon Squeezy over HTTPS. Initial activation uses a persistent random installation label; it does not send your computer name or hardware serial number.

Lemon Squeezy manages licenses, activations, orders, and customer information. Sim Screener does not operate a customer or licensing database. No screenshots or recordings are sent.

App downloads and updates

Installers and updates are hosted on Cloudflare. The Mac app uses Sparkle to check for, download, and install signed updates over HTTPS. These requests do not include your license key, email address, installation identifier, screenshots, or recordings. System profiling is disabled. Cloudflare may process your IP address and standard request metadata, including the app version, to deliver downloads and updates under Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

You can control automatic update checks and downloads in Settings → About, or check for updates manually. Update preferences are stored locally on your Mac.

Payments and this website

Lemon Squeezy processes purchases and collects the information needed for payment and tax handling under Lemon Squeezy’s privacy policy.

This website does not set purchase or license receipt cookies. Lemon Squeezy’s hosted checkout and receipt pages have their own data practices. Hosting and payment providers may process IP addresses and request metadata to deliver their services.

What’s stored on your Mac

License credentials, the random installation label, and the last successful verification are stored in the macOS data-protection Keychain, without iCloud synchronization and restricted to your device. The app periodically checks activation and permits up to seven days offline after successful verification. Explicit revocation disables access when received.

Folder choices, imported frames, up to 100 capture history entries, and file-watch checkpoints live in the Screenshawty folder under your user Library’s Application Support directory. Pending captures and working copies are kept in its Screenshot Inbox so they survive restarts. Development and debug builds use separate data directories.

Saving a capture publishes its PNG to your chosen folder and removes its working copies. Dragged captures remain in local app storage so the receiving app can continue reading them. Trash moves working copies to macOS Trash and preserves the original capture. Video exports are saved to your chosen folder.

You’re in control

You can deactivate your license in the app before removing it. Deleting the app does not delete your captures. Sim Screener does not install a background service; optional launch at login uses macOS Login Items. Support and checkout links open in your browser.
